14 May 2013 - EPTDA keeps on adding new members on its way to 15th-anniversary celebrations in Venice

The leading European community in the mechanical power transmission and motion control industry continues growing

The European Power Transmission Distributors Association (EPTDA) was founded in 1998 in Europe as a community for distributors and manufacturers active in the mechanical power transmission and motion control (PT/MC) industry. This year EPTDA will be celebrating its 15th anniversary at its annual convention in Venice; a short yet thriving journey, as the organisation has become the leading organisation of its kind in the sector.

EPTDA is recognised today by PT/MC decision makers as the only platform for executive networking and B2B meetings, thereby attracting an increasing number of industry stakeholders from around the globe. “Since its previous annual convention in September 2012 in Lisbon, Portugal, the association has welcomed 15 new company members, including 9 since January only. In the past few months, EPTDA has been focusing its efforts on raising awareness in Eastern Europe and Turkey – a very fast-developing ground for the industry, where representation can be strengthened,” EPTDA Executive Vice President Hans Hanegreefs explains. As a result of dynamic campaigns, EPTDA has introduced new memberships in the region; the most recent including six distributors Fazil Rulmancilik A.S. (Turkey); Goztas Rulman (Turkey); Ozevren Rulman San. Tic. Ltd Sti. (Turkey); Polymak Müh. Ic ve Dis Tic. (Turkey); Prema (Poland); and Wilhelm Herm Müller Polska SP. Z.oo (Poland). The organisation generates many benefits for its active members; particularly for manufacturers looking for new channels of distribution. As EPTDA is developing its distributor representation, it attracts increasingly manufacturers to join and explore this qualified pool of potential partners. Recently three new manufacturers got on board to take part in this venture – DRC Kaucuk San Tic AS (Bezek Hose, Turkey); CPM SpA (Italy); and Wippermann Jr. GmbH (Germany).

Dott. Ing. Simon Fantin, Deputy General Manager and Sales Director of Italian manufacturer CPM SpA, explains the reasons and benefits to join EPTDA – “I am proud to catch this opportunity to become a member of the EPTDA organisation, as I strongly believe that sharing information and competencies will bring to all of us benefits in our business; one of my goals is to get in touch with both European and overseas distributors in order to create a more efficient sales network throughout the world.” CPM SpA was established in 1967 as a small mechanical enterprise, with the ambition of producing very high quality products. Currently, with a staff of 160 people, CPM produces, in mid to high series, special ball, cylindrical roller, tapered roller and needle-roller bearings, slewing rings and bushings. Over the past 45 years, CPM has constantly grown its sales, investing in know-how, in up-to-date technology and in production facilities, keeping the “Made in Italy” principle unchanged. POLYMAK, founded in late twentieth century, is today one of the leading suppliers of many hi-tech industries with critical components for machine tools, medical equipment, vending machinery, material handling, and the automotive industry in Turkey. Parallel to the increment of POLYMAK’s linear motion partners, Polymak has been continuing its fast yet stable growth with increasing number of suppliers. For a distributor like Polymak, EPTDA membership generates tangible benefits – “Our major motivations behind joining EPTDA family as a distributor member, are to exchange ideas with industry professionals, get exposed to best practices in the PT/MC sector, expand our vision and seek vertical and horizontal growth opportunities while creating added value to EPTDA members through our know-how in the Turkish market for machine tools and power transmission industry,” states Mr Ahmet Comak, General Manager of Polymak. “We feel privileged to have the opportunity to work and get in contact with so many valuable members throughout Europe. We strongly believe that EPTDA gatherings will provide a unique opportunity to meet and exchange ideas as well as an active and engaging discussion on a variety of industry related issues,” he adds. Ozevren Rulman is another example of a Turkish company finding benefits in joining EPTDA. Ozevren Rulman has been serving all end-users all over Turkey with its head office on the Asian side of Istanbul and seven branch offices across the country. The company, ranking as top bearing company in Turkey, has had TUV Rhineland ISO 9001-2008 quality certificate since 2003. “Ozevren Rulman is grateful to join EPTDA which is an organisation that lets manufacturers and distributors from across the world meet, interact and find new business opportunities. One of the most important reasons for Ozevren Rulman to be a member of this wonderful organisation is to get to know new professionals in the power transmission sector and to create long-term business relationships. EPTDA creates a platform for people to connect easily and lead nations to meet in a same place without making multiple appointments. Therefore, Ozevren Rulman, one of the leading companies in the Turkish market, is happy to be a member of this big family,” Foreign Trade Specialist Sesil Markaroglu declares. Ozevren Rulman has been expanding its portfolio of trademarks that are experts in their own field worldwide. These include Renold and NSK, to name but a few.

EPTDA currently represents 210 key players, small and medium quality-driven stakeholders of the industry in all parts of Europe, North America, Middle-East and Africa. Together these companies account for over 25 billion euros annual sales volume, within more than fifteen categories of power transmission and motion control components.

Every year, EPTDA members convene for the association’s General Assembly, held in conjunction with the EPTDA Annual Convention, the number one executive event in the PT/MC segment. In 2013, the convention will be held on 18-20 September in world’s most romantic and enigmatic city: Venice, Italy. Over 350 industry professionals – EPTDA members, US-counterpart PTDA members and non-members alongside – are expected to attend, taking the opportunity to combine business meetings, tailor-made educational programmes – including dedicated Distribution Forum – and social networking with high-class 15th-anniversary celebrations. On that very occasion, all the EPTDA first timers will be introduced formally to the audience, giving their businesses matchless, impactful exposure.

“The EPTDA Annual Conventions are the most cost-effective way to meet so many customers, suppliers or business partners in one time, at one single place. It is also a distinctive forum to learn about the industry like nowhere else, and get to know new members and contacts,” Executive Vice President Hans Hanegreefs testifies. “This year especially, given the 15th anniversary circumstances, we expect a record-level attendance, as much in terms of individual delegates as in terms of companies being represented. Many reasons therefore not to miss this once-in-a-lifetime event and being part of our growing community,” concludes Hanegreefs.
Registrations for the EPTDA Venice 2013 convention are open to both EPTDA/PTDA members and qualified non-member companies.
30 Apr 2013 - EPTDA 2013 Benchmark Analysis to demonstrate development in the distribution industry

The Benchmark Analysis is second in the EPTDA’s “in-house” business intelligence report series. Aimed at distributors, it is the one and only monitoring tool custom-designed by technical distributors, for technical distribution, making strategy measurable! It covers the most relevant performance indicators that these distributors monitor to steer their business – customers (base development; order lines; e-business), finance (gross profit; ROS), processes/inventory (sales ratios; stock turn), technological developments and growth (innovation).

In 2011, progress on previous year was especially noted in sales performance results. Average order line value improved in the industry, especially for large companies. Good performance of small distributors’ stock turn also stimulated a general, moderate industry increase. Similarly, gross profit ratio and return on sales - to a larger extent - generated better results than the previous year, except for small distributors which reported slowdown around 15%. Meanwhile, the rate of new customers, sales of new products and e-business ratios overall decreased in the industrial distribution, despite the fact that large companies recorded a substantial increase in sales of new products. As a conclusion, 2011 generated some profitable opportunities in the distribution industry in key areas such as sales. Challenges seemed to have arisen as well in other sectors like growth and development. Some improvements were then to be expected in the future.

The EPTDA 2013 Benchmark Analysis will demonstrate how these key business indicators have evolved in 2012, and the industry has picked up in the weaker areas. The report will be released in June as a unique tangible benefit for participating members.

For more information about the Benchmark Analysis and other market research, log on to http://eptda.org/Industry

4 Apr 2013 - EU Monitoring report on Basics of balanced distribution collaboration

The European Power Transmission Distributors Association (EPTDA) represents the interests of the power transmission and motion control (PT/MC) industry. One of its roles is to provide Legal Watchdog services, monitoring EU legal developments and informing its members and the industry accordingly. The EU Monitoring reports are designed to provide support to companies having a limited access to this kind of information and EU law developments, or limited capabilities to investigate such matters.

EPTDA just released its 29th EU Monitoring report. It outlines legal basics to support developing balanced distribution collaboration – format, performance, specifics, technical aspects and legal scope. The report aims to provide a set of advice to prepare a successful, balanced distribution collaboration between a distributor and a manufacturer.

Recently, EPTDA also published a Distributor-Manufacturer Agreement Checklist. As part of its ethical commitment and best practice programme, EPTDA promotes balanced relationships between distributors and manufacturers. The Checklist is a sequence of guidelines aimed to help distributors and manufacturers make sure that all important aspects of business collaboration with each other are addressed when discussing terms, and/or included in the formal contract/agreement.

The EU Monitoring reports are a tangible benefit of EPTDA membership. Members can download the integral paper from the Members Area.

Why EU matters to your company?

In an ever changing global business environment it is crucial to look and think outside the box. To succeed in today's business environment, a company must deal with the possible business barriers before they arise and hamper competitiveness.

European Union is the source of 70-80 % of the legislation that governs our everyday life and business practices. No sector can afford to ignore European policies, as it can cost them substantial resources when the European legislation is adopted or altered against the interests of their sector.

EPTDA's member companies are vulnerable to change in many policy areas such as: environment, energy, trade and consumer protection that can affect the competitiveness and profitability of the sector.

26 Mar 2013 - EPTDA economic outlook reports encouraging progress from Germany, North America and Southeast Asia

In its recent economic outlook, EPTDA’s Economic Forecaster Alan Beaulieu reports that improving German exports provide encouraging signs for Europe’s largest economy. Combined with an increasing investor activity in Germany and UK, as well as ongoing expansion in North America and Southeast Asia, these are signs of better days in the EU.

The Europe Manufacturing Index shows reassuring improvement in the monthly trend. Besides this, austerity measures in Europe should be moderate given the weakness of the general economy. And a projected expansion of US through 2013 should provide European firms with a solid customer base.

The bimonthly economic outlook is an integral benefit of EPTDA membership. Members can download it in full from the Members Area.
14 Dec 2012 - EPTDA sets guidelines for PT/MC distributor-manufacturer agreements

The European Power Transmission Distributors Association (EPTDA) is the leading organisation in Europe bringing together distributors and manufacturers in the mechanical power transmission and motion control (PT/MC) industry. As part of its ethical commitment and best practice programme, EPTDA promotes balanced relationships between distributors and manufacturers.

The EPTDA Distribution Development Committee and Manufacturer Council joined hands to lay out a set of guidelines for drafting business agreements between PT and MC distributors and manufacturers – the EPTDA “Distributor-Manufacturer Agreement Checklist”. It is designed to help distributors, and manufacturers, make sure together that all important aspects of a business collaboration with each other are addressed when discussing terms, and/or included in the formal contract/agreement. Accordingly, both parties can be represented equally for a mutually profitable partnership.

The EPTDA checklist has been laid out to suit all legal regions in Europe. It was built on the example of PTDA’s (EPTDA's US counterpart) more comprehensive “Guidelines For Developing A Distributor-Manufacturer Agreement: A Components Checklist” (this document is also available for free to EPTDA members, and for purchase on the PTDA website www.ptda.org).
Georg Martin GmbH: Peel off instead of grinding

Press manufacturer using shims to gain 2 days in assembly

Press manufacturers Beutler Nova have achieved considerable savings in the assembly of their fully automatic blanking presses with a single connecting rod by using steel shims. High-precision tolerance compensation with M-Tech®L shims from Georg Martin GmbH have replaced time and cost-intensive grinding work during the necessary fitting and adjustment phase. This is a decisive contribution towards optimizing the coordination processes during final assembly.

The AZ 630 blanking press with a single connecting rod was developed for the manufacture of aluminium packaging. Enormous time savings in final assembly are achieved by using shims from the Georg Martin company.

Dietzenbach, October 2011. – “By using M-Tech® shims, we have realized quite considerable time savings during assembly,” reports Stefan Birrer, Works Manager at Beutler Nova. Located in the Swiss town of Gettnau the company, which belongs to the Schuler group, manufactures compact presses for use in the automotive industry, as well as in the manufacture of household appliances and in electrical and packaging technology applications. With a pressing force of 630 kN, the company developed the fully automatic AZ 630 blanking press with a single connecting rod mainly for the manufacture of aluminium packaging. To achieve tangible process optimization during final assembly, the Works Manager contacted the German sheet metal processing company Georg Martin GmbH a few weeks ago. The supplier from the state of Hesse is regarded as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of metallic shims for tolerance compensation. When and wherever components have to grow together to form functioning sub-assemblies, the M-Tech® products manufactured by Georg Martin GmbH usually result in considerable simplification and cost savings during assembly.

Marriage of guide rails and carcass

This was also the case with the Swiss press manufacturer, because Beutler Nova use four pre-tensioned, vertically installed linear guide units for the twin-stand construction of their AZ 630 blanking press with a single connecting rod. The trick here is to “marry” these linear units to the press carcass during final assembly. One essential aspect of this is the exact fitting of the guide rails by shims into the carcass of the press, because this is ultimately responsible for a high-quality blanking result. “Until recently, this step in the assembly process was still done with the help of solid steel plates which were painstakingly ground to the right size before fitting. With a processing time averaging two days, this was simply too long for us, so we started to look for alternatives. In the course of a discussion at a trade fair last year, we discovered the shims from Georg Martin GmbH as the ideal solution. Once we were able to establish feasibility using sample parts, we now only use multi-layer steel shims of the type M-Tech®L to fit the linear guide units, “ explains Stefan Birrer. The press manufacturer is supplied by Georg Martin GmbH with a highly durable M-Tech®L version with an overall thickness of 2.0 mm which the fitters can reduce to the required size by peeling off layers of 0.05 mm. Peeling is done manually with a knife directly at the machine. “The fitting and adjustment work is now completed much more quickly, because once the measuring has been done, all we have to do is peel off the individual layers of laminated sheet metal and install the shim without further ado,” the Works Manager emphasizes. Georg Martin GmbH delivers the shims as ready-to-install die-cut parts with drill holes.

The steel layers are peeled off manually with a knife directly at the machine.

Plenty of potential in the process

The example of the Swiss press manufacture is indicative of the optimization potential the use of M-Tech® shims offers to the value-added process. Time can even be saved during the development phase, because the constructors no longer have to contend with close tolerance specifications. Manufacturing effort is reduced too, because the “more tolerant” construction of the joints does not require any reworking. On top of all of this, throughput times are also reduced, because the compensation elements are available on the spot during assembly, and repair costs are reduced too, because all the maintenance mechanic has to do is peel instead of grind.
Shims from Georg Martin GmbH are available in steel, stainless steel, aluminium and brass in the product lines M-Tech®L, M-Tech®S and M-Tech®P. The layered sheet metal M-Tech®L shims consist of up to 64 laminated metal films (25 to 100µ) with total thicknesses of 0.50 to 3.20 mm. The layers can be peeled off individually until the required tolerance compensation has been achieved. M-Tech®S shims are made of solid sheet metal designed as precisely fitting individual shims or ground and polished in sets. M-Tech®P are customer-friendly edge bonded shims as thin sheet metal packages with adhesive on the edge which can be removed like a tear-off calendar, or shims of various thicknesses joined up with cable connectors as “loose leaf shim”.

With this report, EPTDA is keeping you abreast of a key legislation related to your business activity in the PT/MC industry – the Machinery Directive, certification & safety.

After a first report released in August 2008 on the subject, we are bringing an update on the directive to our, as well as our US-counterpart PTDA members, as a crucial piece of legislation for distributors and manufacturers in the mechanical power transmission and motion control industry.

Originally adopted in 1989, and updated in 2006, the Machinery Directive came into effect as from December 29, 2009. Not only is it intended to ensure the safety of manufacturers’ products and covers the industrial machines to domestic appliances, but also to promote the free movement of machinery within the EU Single Market.

As a tangible benefit, EPTDA and PTDA members can access the full report in the Members Area: click here

26 Oct 2012 - Upward trends auguring well for the upcoming months

EPTDA's Industry Barometer – the Trend Data Survey, second issue of the 2012 series, measuring the industry trends based on 4 Key Performance Indicators, Sales, Gross Margin, Employment and Inventory, generated encouraging results, based on a participation rate of 30% of the EPTDA distributor and manufacturer members and the representation of 8 geographical areas – Eastern Europe, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Spain and a group of ‘Other’ countries with a smaller representation.

Following the trend in the previous period (January-April), sales in the 2nd third of the year improved on previous-year period for both the distributors and the manufacturers. Generally speaking, gross margin evolved along the same lines, though to a lesser extent than in the previous period. Trends in employment and inventory seemed to vary slightly from “stable” to “growing”.

Results in Eastern Europe reflect positive performance as compared to previous-year figures. Scandinavia aligns with as one of the best performers in sales, while Germany follows Eastern Europe reporting good increase in gross margin in the concerned periods. South Europe (Italy & Spain) however was affected by lower sales than in 2011 for the period, while gross margin levels were more or less maintained.

Globally the trends are on the rise, but distributors may need to watch their activity carefully and boost performance, especially their gross margin.

The detailed report is accessible for EPTDA distributor and manufacturer members only, in the password-protected Members Area.

6 Sep 2012 - EPTDA introduces 6 new members

EPTDA Annual Convention boosts membership growth and welcomes 6 new members over the Summer period

Brussels, 6 September 2012

Just three weeks from its annual convention, EPTDA Lisbon 2012, the European Power Transmission Distributors Association (EPTDA), the leading European organisation for the mechanical Power Transmission and Motion Control (PT/MC) industry, welcomes 6 new member companies from across Europe. Driven by their interest in attending EPTDA’s convention and the many opportunities such a platform can bring to their businesses and professional networks, the leaders of these companies have moved to take an active role in the association itself.

EPTDA has continued active communication and promotion campaigns in the past few months, around its upcoming annual convention – EPTDA Lisbon 2012 – and increasing membership benefit offer. As a result, the association attracted six new company members just over the summer; 14 in total since January (more than 7% growth in 9 months). EPTDA is pleased to introduce 3 new distributors – Boie GmbH, Germany; Dexis, France and Exsteel Engineering srl, Romania; 1 new manufacturer – Vulkan France SA, France; and 2 new associate members – Nyenrode Business Universiteit, The Netherlands and Traceparts, France.

“EPTDA is pleased to reinforce its presence in France with the addition of three new members, of which Dexis which used to be an active member a few years ago. In addition, the association furthers its growth in Eastern Europe, welcoming its first ever Romanian distributor member, Exsteel Engineering srl,” states Hans Hanegreefs, Executive Vice President of EPTDA.

Exsteel Engineering srl is a Romanian engineering company with 10 employees located in Cluj Napoca, the main industrial center in Transylvania. The business started 15 years ago and since then has focused on the distribution of gearboxes and gear motors as an official distributor of Bonfiglioli, Italy. In addition, Exsteel sells vacuum pumps from Busch and some other power transmission components like couplings, chains and belts. The company boasts a very important market share in sales of gearboxes and a highly experienced sales force of 5 engineers located in Cluj, as well as another one in the south of Romania. The service and maintenance capability of Exsteel increased very much in the last two years. As a result, Exsteel recently started to assemble some of the Bonfiglioli gearboxes. Mr. Calin Chichisan, Manager of Exsteel Engineering srl, comments on the reasons for joining the EPTDA: “In my opinion, it is a good idea to put together manufacturers and distributors of industrial components. We have very few opportunities to meet each other in an organised manner. We are always looking for new ways to expand our business and the increase of products range is the best way. Therefore we wish to meet manufacturers interested in the Romanian market. Similarly, we are interested to have contacts with other distributors having stocks with quick delivery possibilities. Above all, we see great benefits in exchanging opinions and ideas with people working in this community.”

Distributor Dexis serves primarily a manufacturing clientele, offering a selection of top brands promoted through a close partnership with major suppliers. Dexis supplies products like machining, personal protection equipment, industrial equipment, material and supplies, to name but a few. Dexis offers its customers inventories located within easy reach of their premises, a customised logistics service and a very large supply of components and parts. Furthermore, Dexis provides global advice and supply services. The technical know-how of its sales staff, the size of its product ranges and the development of additional services (after-sales, assembly and finishing workshops) are for Dexis customers the guarantee that they will find the solution they are looking for.

Besides distributors and manufacturers, EPTDA also welcomes associate members, providing directly or indirectly industry-related services. Nyenrode Business Universiteit is one of these who joined recently. “Gaining access to this special network allows us to meet EPTDA members, thereby gaining insight into the developments in this industry sector and into the special needs of its members. This in turn allows us to build a tailor-made executive management development programme that is relevant and effective. Bottom line, with this membership we invest in building a sustainable relationship with the EPTDA allowing us to play a role in leadership development of its members, now and in the future,” declares Drs Lizette Cohen, Programme Director. Nyenrode Business Universiteit, founded in 1946, has created an environment in which ambitious and talented students and academics are dedicated to bridging the gap between academic rigor and daily business practice. Nyenrode also provides life-long career development at each pivotal moment of a professional’s career. This also implies programmes before or just after the next career step. The people who benefit from this are professionals, managers, directors, executives and non executives. At Nyenrode they get ready for the next step, just in time, with the most recent insights.

Traceparts, based in France, is another associate member which recently joined the association. "As a world-leading digital engineering 3D content company for many customers in the world, we are very happy to become a new EPTDA associate member. We strongly believe it is a good opportunity for many manufacturers and distributors to know us, and our services. On our side, we are interested in delivering the most technical and CAD content as our end users can need on our portal tracepartsonline.net", declares Claude Perrusset, Account Manager.

“We will be very proud to introduce these new comers officially to a large audience of over 300 decision makers in the mechanical power transmission and motion control (PT/MC) industry at our 15th annual convention, on 26-28 September in Portugal. These new comers will align with no less than 25 non member companies and 125 member companies from across the globe during this professional industry event. The EPTDA proves to be one of the industry’s most prominent networking events for key players and representatives of leading PT/MC companies in the EMEA region,” concludes Mr. Hanegreefs.

EPTDA invites all PT/MC professionals to meet its new members, join industry peers and colleagues for an exclusive business experience at its 15th convention on 26-28 September in Lisbon Portugal.
3 Jul 2012 - The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and how to save on energy costs

EPTDA released its new EU legal monitoring report, in association with EPTDA’s Legal Watchdog Koen Lauryssen (Van Cutsem, associate member). In this report, EPTDA is tackling a broader topic not only being of interest for the mechanical power transmission and motion control industry, but in general also for every European commercial and residential building owner and developer: the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

This directive is a legislative instrument for improving the energy efficiency of Europe's building stock. Originally adopted in 2002, the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive was reviewed in 2010 to rectify its shortcomings. The new Directive had to be transposed into national law by July 2012.

One of the key changes, amongst others introduced by this recast was the extension of the scope of the directive to all existing buildings undergoing major renovations, having to meet minimum efficiency levels.

The directive includes the use of renewable energies like solar panels while minimizing energy-loss with better insulation, double-glazing and similar measures. The Corinthia Hotel Lisbon, the official host venue of the EPTDA Lisbon 2012 convention (26-28 September), is a good example of energy performance best practices:

The five-star Corinthia Hotel Lisbon, in collaboration with the Portuguese German Chamber of Commerce Training Centre, was selected to take part in an energy saving best practices study aimed at encouraging the use of solar thermal energy in hotels. The proposals put forward by the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon team ensured a reduction of no less than 11% of the hotel’s total energy costs, representing an energy saving potential of up to 70 MHz per year and a CO2 saving potential of 14 ton per year. The Corinthia Lisbon’s study was presented in several UE countries as an example of the best strategy on energy saving in the hotel business.
(Source: Corinthia Hotel Lisbon)

For more details on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, members can access the full report in the Members Area of the EPTDA website: CLICK HERE (password protected).

30 July - European mild recovery anticipated in 2013 and opportunities in China, US & Turkey

Fresh economic outlook by EPTDA’s Economic Forecaster Alan Beaulieu shows that results through May 2012 for Europe Industrial Production are on target with late-2011 forecast; however, a proactive change in the outlook is warranted at this time. EPTDA Members should expect a year-over-year growth rate of 0.8% in 2013 with most of the good news coming in the second half of the year.

When it comes to export, nations may see declining figures, but EPTDA members should be looking to boost export activity to China, the US and Turkey.

EPTDA members can get more details about these predictions and opportunities for their businesses in the full report available for download in the Members area (password protected).

10 Jul 2012 - PT/MC education and the EPTDA Academy

Recruitment of skilled technical people is one of our major challenges nowadays in Europe. This shortage is expected to continue growing in the coming years. Also in the United States, industry professionals are struggling with this phenomenon, which in the future will affect as well the manufacturers as the distributors, forcing them for instance to hire sales personnel without any technical education or background.

The EPTDA is currently developing its EPTDA Academy framework in order to address this key issue and bridge the gaps of the “PT/MC” education, at multiple levels – executive, personal development, technical and trend watch. The EPTDA is striving to provide the industry with qualified talents and young business potential, and prevent human capital shortage in the future. Recently, the EPTDA Academy hosted its first industry Executive Programme in association with Nyenrode Business University, The Netherlands:

“I am very happy that Tsubaki gave me the opportunity to be part of this executive programme. It inspired, and still inspires me a lot, and gave me tools which I could use immediately for improving my daily job. I would also like to compliment those who made the organisation of this training possible. Lizette Cohen from Nyenrode and her team did a great job. I can recommend all the manufacturers of the EPTDA to send their high potentials to this executive programme,” reported Mr. Peter de Blok, Sales Manager at Tsubakimoto Europe and Manufacturer Council Vice Chair.

The EPTDA Manufacturer Council will further address PT/MC education at its next meeting on 26 September during the EPTDA Lisbon 2012 convention in Portugal.

Click here for a more detailed review of the 2012 EPTDA Executive Programme at Nyenrode BU

26 Jun 2012 - EPTDA's Industry Barometer - 2012 Trend Data Survey first report hot off the press

EPTDA's Industry Barometer – the Trend Data Survey – measuring the industry trends based on 4 Key Performance Indicators, Sales, Gross Margin, Employment and Inventory, indicated an increase in sales and gross margin performance in the first months of 2012 as compared to the same period last year for both distributors and manufacturers. A slowdown towards the end of April was reported, to a lesser extent though for the manufacturers.

Germany , UK/Ireland and Scandinavia seemed to have performed better than the rest of Europe; especially in countries like Italy, Spain and Portugal, where also the accumulated sales variation results slowed down month after month in the beginning of 2012 vs. 2011.

Most of both the distributors and manufacturers reported stability in employment and inventory growth above 3%.

Overall the results on all 4 fronts (KPI's) were very promising in the first 4 months of 2012 as compared to 2011. Based on the initial signs towards the end of April 2012, the upward trend may continue in the second half of the year; or is a further slowdown after April to be expected?

The next EPTDA Trend Data Survey, due for release in October 2012, will provide more complete answers to this question, showing results of May-September 2012 period on 2011.

EPTDA Members can access the detailed report in the password-protected Members Area: click here.
