BETTER OPPORTUNITIES IN EASTERN EUROPE

EPTDA MEMBERS SHOULD EXPECT TO FIND BETTER OPPORTUNITIES IN EASTERN EUROPE AND PLAN FOR AN ECONOMIC UPSWING AT THE END OF 2016

Average Western Europe Industrial Production for the 12 months through August is 1.1% higher than the average one year ago. However, EPTDA members should plan for Europe Industrial Production’s growth rate to remain below two percent until the end of 2016. Europe Manufacture of General Purpose Machinery, which includes engines and turbines, fluid power equipment, pumps and compressors, and bearings, gears and other driving elements, is down 1.9% in August on a year-over-year basis. Average production for the most recent three months is 4.9% below one year ago. This suggests additional year-over-year contraction ahead. Europe Manufacture of Lifting and Handling Equipment, which grew 4.0% for the 12 months through August. Lifting and Handling Equipment is expected to grow at a slower pace into mid-2016 but will not experience recession. Europe Manufacture of Machinery for Mining, Quarrying and Construction is up 3.1% on a year-over-year basis. Growth in the last three months relative to the same three months one year ago is up 6.1%, nearly double the annual growth rate. There are disparities in Machinery and Equipment Production between European countries.
