AS EPTDA MEMBERS GO FORWARD IN 2016

As EPTDA members go forward in 2016, they should seek opportunities within areas tied to the consumer, such as material handling equipment and automotive, as well as within those eastern European countries offering higher growth rates

Average Industrial Production in Western Europe over the 12 months ending in October is up 1.0% from one year ago. Eastern Europe is generally showing more favorable economic conditions than Western Europe, led by Poland and the Czech Republic.Overall, the European machinery sector remains weak, but there are some small, tentative signs that better times are coming, particularly in the second half of 2016. The most recent 12 months of Europe Manufacture of General Purpose Machinery, which includes engines, turbines, fluid power equipment, pumps, compressors, bearings, gears, and other driving elements, is down 3.2% as of November. Europe Manufacture of Other General Purpose Machinery, which includes ovens, furnaces, lifting and handling equipment, office machinery and equipment, and commercial HVAC equipment, has remained virtually flat. The most recent three months of Europe Manufacture of Machinery for Mining, Quarrying, and Construction are down 8.6% from the same three months one year ago. Precipitous declines in China’s stock market have sent ripples across the global economy, particularly within areas tied to commodities. However, the rate-of-change in the China Leading Indicator has risen for five consecutive months. This is an early indication that the Chinese economy will begin to stabilize, likely in the second half of the year, which will offer commodity prices some relief.
